This game is simply amazing. Thumbs up to the programmer(s) and thank you for the fun.

Good, but not great

This is a great idea; Im a big fan of classic RPGs, and hope to see a lot more of them on the iPhone. I love this style of art; its reminiscent of classic Sega Genesis RPGs like Shining in the Darkness and Shining Force (I wouldnt be surprised if this was originally developed by the same team, though it feels like its older than the Shining* series, as the RPG system seems quite a bit less mature). That said, from what Ive seen of this one so far, I have to say theyve done a pretty sloppy job porting this game to the iPhone. The Cocoa Touch (iPhone) portions of the UI are awkward and ugly, and some basic things are surprisingly difficult to do. For example, when youre buying new weapons or armor, you dont get any indication of which characters can equip them, or whether its better/worse than what you currently have (this is a standard feature included in pretty much all classic RPGs, and was probably in the original version of this game). If you dont want to waste money buying weapons/armor that turn out to be worse than what you already have, youll need a pen and notepad to write down and compare all the stats yourself. I may revise my review after Ive had a chance to get a little deeper into the game, but at the moment I would only recommend this to diehard RPG fans, since its the only RPG for the iPhone so far. Surely someone can and will do a lot better at porting an old classic RPG to the iPhone.

Good for now

Addictive game but when something like a final fantasy comes out I doubt I will continue playing this game bit its worth buying

Almost done

I almost beat the game, and so far its terrific! A lot of the music is repetetive, but I think that they really outdid themselves on the castle near the end! The music was awesome! I think that it is an awesome game, especially after the update!

Vay review

this game is a must pick up for any RPG lover. This game has a wide variety of wepons and armor and it is so much fun to play. I could not stop playing for hours when i first got it and tried it and for the price of $4.99 this game is the one of the best apps no doubt

very very good game

i would recomend this to a nyone its great for long car rides and u can get hours and hours of game play for 5bucks!!!!!great deal

2nd review

I notice vay tends to crash alot, please release a patch to resolve the crashes.

Entertaining

Its a good way to pass time, unless you get stuck...like me. How do you get to Wolesse Island? anyway good game none the less.

Great Port!!!

Most if not all of the issues that previous reviewers have stated out have virtually been corrected in the latest patch. this game has a great storyline and fun to play. i suggest hard mode because it is way to easy on normal

Exellent!!!

One of the only game worth paying for. It is very complete and fun to play. I cant wait for more great RPG games like this!!! downside:The dificult mode is a bit boring since it only add monsters on your path and make it longer to move from a place to the other and bonus features are pointless...

Moar!

Love old school rpgs! Can not wait 4 More.

Great Game!

I love RPGs. in this you can explore, go to towns, go to store. Ive beaten it.( The bonus was not so great but watever!)

Very good game

for 5 $ i would buy this game over and over again but too bad i finished it, the story line is good and the game play is good too, controls are easy to get used to. You might get stuck once or twice but i figured everything out eventually fun game

I once liked it... almost done

The more I play it, the less I like it. Pros: Story line, classic RPG graphics, variety of spells/items, touch to move. Cons: No way to compare items from the shop, need to exit, etc... No quick way to exit menu, Ummm... modern day talk/jokes in a classic RPG? ruins the classic fee.... Hard mode just means you gain less experience and spells cost 3x as much. Battle system: TONE DOWN THE RANDOM BATTLES?!? Like take out 70% of the random battles!? Sometimes Ill hit 4 random battles and only move about 10 squares. The battles soon get tiring and boring and tedious....... the more I play the game *cough have random battles* the less I like it. Battles usually consist of one spell and you kill everyone.

Vay!

This game was great start to finish. Only got it 5 days ago, never had a single player die though I was at the end boss at level 87 so thats why :P. Never the less great story and turn based gameplay. Best game ive played in months and ive got PS3 and Wii. RPGs have always been the best type of game though since FF went to PS2 they have all been junk. Nothing beats turn based!

Apple! We need a better review system. +the RPGs I would LOVE to see ported

An improvement that the App Store despriately needs is a version tag on all user comments. This would not be hard to do as iTunes has a copy of the users Apps. in its library. Thereafter the stars could be refreshed-the bad reviews that no longer apply should not bring down an apps development team that is addressing the issues. Props to SoMoGa for knocking down the issues as they arise. I have only played the game a short while but I love the feel. I was a casual Nintendo RPG fan-it is good to have a second chance at descovering a Sega CD title. I never knew anybody that owned a Sega CD. I hope more developers do this. One title in Particular: X-COM!!! How awesome would that be on my iPod touch!!!! And also Maniac Masion (which was nothing short of amazing retro for Palm), Curse of Money Island Series and the Super Nintendo Final Fantasy

Great classic RPG

Its retro heaven. Just a classic early-Final Fantasy style game. Takes a while to finish, fun dialogue, incredibly bad voice-acting in the incredibly cheaply animated cut-scenes, I loved every minute. It is incredibly easy, which I enjoy, but there is a hard mode if you want a challenge (I didnt try it myself). Just one spoiler: There is one room at the end with about 500 doors to randomly try until you find the right one. If you enjoy spending hours searching for the right one, go ahead but if not... its on the top row on the right-hand side (thats still about fifteen doors to search, anyway).

Oi-VAY how refreshing...

Thank You, somoga, for brining my favourite sega cd rpg (and the only one i can think of....) to the iphone. the map screen controls are a bit buggy, which to i sugest adding a virtual directional pad to control with. besides that, it is well made and holds up the legacy of a cult classic game.

Great Game however...

The lack of website support to plan out upgrades and additional information for game play make me give this game 4 stars. Its also hard to navigate in map view, actually, its not that its hard it can be very frustrating. Other than these points the game is an absolute steal at 5 bucks!
